Waterston Design, South Canterbury
Jenny's philosophy is to design for you, the client, to understand your needs and requirements and to deliver style, elegance, harmony and comfort to every commission.
Waterston Design is an Interior Design business which began in Queenstown in 1982 and although Jenny has relocated to South Canterbury, she still has many commissions in the Southern Lakes region, charging from her base in Queenstown. She now operates her retail studio in conjunction with “The Farmhouse (Geraldine)” from 3 Talbot Street, Geraldine.
With 30 years experience, Jenny Waterston offers a
personalised and professional design service and can supply all
your needs for a home or business whether you are starting to build
or renovating an existing space. With access to many professional
tradesmen and suppliers she can help you in all aspects of your
project.
Jenny can also work closely with the client and architect from
the beginning, bringing experienced choices in finishes, colour,
flooring, kitchens, bathrooms, joinery and door hardware, lighting,
lamps, soft furnishings, bedding - in fact anything that makes a
house a home, right down to dinnerware, glassware and
cutlery.
In her studio Jenny carries many international fabric samples,
samples for window dressing -rods and brackets, blinds, timber
blinds etc., samples of unique carpets, paint colours, furniture,
lamps, cushions and accessories.
She specialises in beautiful bedding from Europe, along with
wonderful New Zealand oak and elm furniture. Jenny custom designs
many pieces herself. Jenny's love is French Provincial and her
accessories have a delightful French accent, which she likes to mix
up with either a gracious traditional home or a contemporary town
house.
Some of her innumerable commissions have included: The Ridge
Resort; Resident Designer at Millbrook Resort, Arrowtown, including
numerous private homes in the resort; Garden Court Apartments; The
Waterfront Apartments; the Italian Showhome at Lakeside Estates -
now a private residence; the conversion of a private house into a
rustic mountain retreat; a conversion of a traditional house to a
contemporary European look; refurbishing a French Style villa;
refurbishing an English style character home; a modern home with an
Oriental influence and a seaside Villa at Akaroa.
Jenny's past clients have so appreciated her abilities that many
keep returning when further work is required.
Many of her commissions have come through recommendations from
previous clients. Although much of her work is localised in the
Queenstown and Canterbury areas, Jenny has been commissioned, and
is available, for work in other parts of New Zealand.
Quality is of the utmost importance to Jenny as some of the
following testimonies will support. Jenny is happy to update and
revamp existing homes.
Testimonials
Jenny was the ideal solution to our problem - we had a clear
vision of what we wanted, with no idea of how to achieve it, and to
make matters worse, we were going to be 2000 miles away for the
duration of the job. Jenny picked up our design brief and ran with
it. Everything we visualised, she made better. Her project
management was excellent and she was absolutely central to the
entire process. We literally could not have done it without
her.

We found Jenny to be very creative and her designs both
practical and original. Her interpretation of what we wanted was of
prime importance to her. She has the ability to understand her
clients' needs.
Eva and Justin Russell, Queenstown, NZ / London
Jenny had an enormous task ahead as I sat with her, house plans
in hand, with very little concept for our interior or exterior
design of our new home. The process with Jenny was fabulous and
loads of fun. It was an exciting process as she helped to unveil
our home. She listened to our brief (be it ever so small) and
worked completely within our budget giving astonishing thought to
the smallest of detail. It was an absolute pleasure working with
Jenny and we are thrilled with the beautiful home that she helped
to create. I would not hesitate to work with her again and highly
recommend her to anyone.
